Yew Tree and Forest Series

‘In the midpoint of this journey that is our life I found myself passing through a dark forest the right path through which had disappeared’. Dante, Divine Comedy.

All the prints in this series of etchings feature forest or yew tree imagery. ‘Under the 17^th century Yew walk in the woods on the Castle Leslie Estate, Glaslough, Co Monaghan. I was mesmerised by the tree’s ancient tendrils, sweeping upwards, as if they were bound in bundles. Something stirred in the unconscious’. The prints developed into a ‘shadow’ series. ‘Shadow’ is the term Carl Jung gave to the primitive and instinctive side of the individual.
